Cowboys Must Re-Sign Obvious Player After OC Hiring News
By Cem Yolbulan
The Dallas Cowboys finally have their new offensive coordinator. One of the top names on their shortlist of OC candidates, Klayton Adams, will be the new man in charge of the Cowboys offense.
With former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer becoming the new head coach, the Cowboys will likely make few changes to their offensive approach. Schottenheimer is seen as a passing game wizard. So, the Cowboys were focused on bringing in an offensive coordinator who would get the running game going.
That is why bringing in an offensive line guru like Adams makes a ton of sense.
Cowboys Need to Re-Sign Rico Dowdle After the Klayton Adams Hire
Adams was credited with developing the offensive line in Arizona and helping turn them into a solid rushing offense. Under Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing, Arizona was a top-ten running team in the league for two straight seasons. They had the second-best yards per carry in the NFL in Adams' both seasons in Arizona.
The Cowboys' prioritizing the run game makes a ton of sense after they ranked last in rushing touchdowns and bottom three in yards per carry last season.
In order to improve the running game, however, the Cowboys need to re-sign Rico Dowdle. The 26-year-old rusher is a free agent after his breakout 2024 season. Dowdle ran for 1,000+ yards for the first time in his career, averaging a personal-best 4.6 yards per carry.
Under Adams, he can reach new levels. Once the Cowboys' offensive line gets better, thanks to internal development and additions through the draft and free agency, Dowdle can truly come into his own. The Cowboys can still target a young running back prospect in the draft, but improving their running game starts with retaining Dowdle.
