The 2025 NFL draft is less than one month away, and Dallas Cowboys fans are hoping for a better experience than what they endured in recent years. It isn't a secret that the Cowboys' last few draft performances haven't produced promising results, leaving some fans wondering if Jerry Jones & Co. will have better success with next month's selections.

One recent Cowboys draft pick who hasn't met expectations is Luke Schoonmaker. Dallas left its fans scratching their heads when it used the 2023 draft's No. 58 pick to land the former Michigan Wolverine, especially when tight end wasn't the team's most pressing need at the time.

With Schoonmaker needing to be better going forward, the Cowboys are clearly sending the underperforming playmaker a message with their latest scouting decision.

Cowboys Hosting Auburn TE Rivaldo Fairweather for Private Workout

KPRC 2 Houston's Aaron Wilson is reporting that the Cowboys have scheduled a private workout with Auburn tight end Rivaldo Fairweather for the coming days. The 6-foot-4 pass-catcher is currently CBS Sports' No. 20-ranked TE prospect heading into April.

Fairweather is one of the more experienced TEs in the 2025 class, having played 51 games across five seasons played at Florida International and Auburn. He demonstrated decent offensive potential throughout his collegiate run, converting 123 receptions into 1,604 receiving yards (13.0 yards per catch) while scoring 13 touchdowns along the way.

The Lauderhill, FL native's best performance came during his debut season with the Tigers in 2023. Not only did the 22-year-old prospect finish with the 10th-most TD grabs (6) in the SEC that season, but he also finished the year with second-team all-conference honors for the first time in his career.

Scouts often describe Fairweather as a TE prospect with solid eye coordination and body control. He's also demonstrated reliable speed and ball-tracking skills, opening the door for him to potentially be an occasional downfield threat. He's far from an elite blocker, however, he's decent enough to provide quarterback Dak Prescott with adequate protection.

Even though he might not have the same upside as fellow TE prospects Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland, Fairweather's presence would certainly put pressure on Schoonmaker. The ex-Wolverine has struggled to produce like a second-round talent, yielding only 35 catches for 306 yards and three TDs in his first 34 NFL appearances.

At the end of the day, using a late-round draft pick on Fairweather is smart if the Cowboys want to improve their TE situation. Competition can make a team better, and Dallas would have nothing to lose by bringing in another young name to try and motivate Schoonmaker.

If it helps him step up, great. If not, the team will at least know it's time to move on.

Cowboys fans won't have to wait too long after to upcoming visit to find out if Fairweather will be heading to the Lone Star State. The 2025 NFL draft is right around the corner and will be taking place at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI, beginning on Thursday, Apr. 24.
