The Dallas Cowboys defense has struggled to stay healthy over the last two weeks, losing three starters (Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Marshawn Kneeland) to various injuries.

It started in Week 4 against the New York Giants, where Parsons suffered a high-ankle sprain, while Lawrence picked up a foot injury.

The initial diagnosis for Parsons seemed much better than Lawrence as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Sept. 29 that the star pass rusher would be re-evaluated in 7-10 days.

Based on that timeline, the earliest Cowboys fans would expect to see Parsons back on the field would be in Week 8 against the San Francisco 49ers. However, Dallas owner Jerry Jones gave an optimistic update on Parsons, which should excite the fanbase heading into Week 6 against the Detroit Lions.

Cowboys News: Micah Parsons is Close to Returning From Ankle Injury

According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday that the former Penn State star is “close” to returning, but he’s “iffy” for Sunday’s game against the Lions.

It's great to hear Parsons is close to returning, given the latest injury to Dallas’ defensive line. It is not surprising to hear Jones be cautious with his status for Sunday’s game. Anytime you deal with a high-ankle sprain, it's a multi-week injury.

If Parsons can practice this week in some form or fashion, head coach Mike McCarthy might consider playing him at home against the Lions. However, the Week 7 bye gives the 25-year-old defender an extra week to rest up from his injury and be 100 percent for the Week 8 showdown against the 49ers.
