Cowboys Reportedly Eyeing Top Head Coaching Candidate on the Market
The Dallas Cowboys have jumped into the head coaching sweepstakes. After five years under Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys decided they wanted to head in a different direction.
While made the decision much later than most teams in the league, there are still quality candidates on the open market. The latest rumors that have emerged this week for the head coaching search put Deion Sanders at the forefront. It's been reported that Sanders would "almost certainly" accept the gig if it was offered.
Kellen Moore, Leslie Frazier, and Robert Saleh were some other names who interviewed with the Cowboys.
On Saturday, another name emerged at the top of the list. Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz reported that Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is a name to watch. Schultz added that Jerry Jones holds him in high regard.
Cowboys News: Aaron Glenn is a Name To Watch for Head Coach
Glenn is one of the hottest candidates in this year's coaching cycle. Mike Vrabel is the only name to land a gig but everyone else is still up for grabs.
Glenn is a Texas native who went to Texas A&M to play college ball. He even played for the Cowboys from 2005-2006.
He retired in 2010 and held multiple positions with the New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns, and Lions.
He's been the Lions defensive coordinator since 2021 and had that group balling despite many key players on IR.
The Lions were 20th in total defense (342.4), fifth in run defense (98.4), and seventh in scoring defense (20.1). That is remarkable considering that Aidan Hutchinson, Carlton Davis, and Alim McNeil have all been on IR for an extended period of time.
Glenn is a former player who has thrived on the sideline. He's ready to take that jump to head coach, and Dallas is interested. There are multiple suitors after Glenn like the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints.
Bringing in someone like Glenn would be a great decision for Jones and Co. Although he has never been a head coach before, he has all the tools needed to excel. Glenn is just looking for his opportunity, and Dallas could become it.
