Cowboys Reuniting With Former QB Right After Cooper Rush Disaster in Week 10
By Jovan Alford
The Dallas Cowboys are making a small change on the QB depth chart after starter Cooper Rush struggled in Sunday’s frustrating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
According to Newy Scruggs of NBC5, the Cowboys are adding veteran quarterback Will Grier to the practice squad this week.
The decision to add Grier to the practice squad doesn’t come as a surprise with Dak Prescott likely out for the rest of the season. The 29-year-old Grier was released last week from the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad.
Dallas hopes they will not have to play Grier for the next several games, but Rush and Trey Lance left much to be desired after their performances against the Eagles. Rush completed a mediocre 13-of-23 passes for 45 yards.
Meanwhile, Lance wasn’t much better, throwing for 21 yards and an interception. He also added 17 rushing yards. The Cowboys will give Rush another shot at the starting job in Week 11.
Grier spent the 2021 and ‘22 seasons with the Cowboys but was cut ahead of the 2023 season after Dallas acquired Lance from the San Francisco 49ers. Before he was released, Grier left a lasting impression on the Cowboys’ brass in 2023.
In the 2023 preseason, the veteran quarterback completed 76.2 percent of his passes for 640 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also had two touchdowns on the ground.
Grier spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and Los Angeles Chargers last season. The Carolina Panthers originally drafted Grier in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
