The Cowboys have a major decision to make regarding Mike McCarthy's future amid a lost season and All-Pro defender Micah Parsons' recent comments might've just saved the coach's job.

Jerry Jones sounds open to the idea of retaining McCarthy despite most fans' assumption that Dallas would move on. McCarthy is not under contract next year but Parsons seemingly believes the coach should get another chance.

With the Cowboys set to take on the Bengals on Monday Night Football, McCarthy is focused on this season. Nonetheless, he likely knows that Dallas' performance over these final weeks could determine his future.

Micah Parsons Supports Cowboys Keeping Mike McCarthy in New Comments

In an interview with ESPN that'll air prior to the game, Parsons blamed the long list of injuries for the underwhelming season, urging his owner to let McCarthy get another chance with the roster.

"I would like a fair shot with everyone back -- players, coaches -- because the injuries kind of struck of what this season could really be," Parsons declared. "The injuries have been terrible. And, you know, it really sucks."

He pointed to veterans like Zack Martin and DeMarcus Lawrence, who are nearing the end of their respective careers, wishing this year could've been more successful. The Cowboys had won at least 12 games for three straight seasons with mostly the same roster, so the talent is certainly there to achieve something.

However, there's no denying the postseason shortcomings that've plagued McCarthy throughout his career. He did win a Super Bowl with the Packers, yet his unimaginative offense and refusal to make key adjustments often leave his teams at a disadvantage in the biggest moments.

Parsons doesn't see it that way, though he realizes that the decision is ultimately Jones'.

"In terms of coaching, man, Coach Mike, me and his relationship has always been really good. He always took real good care of me. I just don't know how the business side of it's going to go, you know?" Parsons continued. "[Jerry Jones] has his own mindset about who he wants to coach. This is his team. I'm kind of just, like, a pawn in this business."

That's an important point considering Parsons is due up for a contract extension that could make him the NFL's highest-paid player. Jones dragged his feet with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb's deals before ultimately paying more than he needed to. It's unclear whether he learned from those mistakes, but Parsons is younger and more accomplished than either one of those guys.

This is a monumental offseason for the organization. How Jones handles McCarthy, Parsons and the rest of the depleted roster will determine if this failed season was merely a blip on the radar or a distressing sign of what's to come.

Parsons is right to support his coach but in order to maximize the team's success, it might be time to get a fresh voice in the building.
