Jerry Jones Makes New Mike McCarthy Comments Before Cowboys' Week 14 Game
By Cem Yolbulan
After back-to-back wins against division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys have revived their hopes for a postseason appearance. Sitting at 5-7 with five games left in the season, the Cowboys still have a mountain to climb but the mood within the fanbase and the organization has been much better in recent weeks. With the next three games coming against beatable opponents like the Bengals, Panthers, and the Bucs, head coach Mike McCarthy may still have a chance to save his job by extending this winning streak.
The victories against the Commanders and the Giants seemingly impressed owner and general manager Jerry Jones. In his appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones praised McCarthy for keeping the team together and making sure that the players didn't quit on the season.
Cowboys News: Jerry Jones Praises HC Mike McCarthy
McCarthy presumably has a long way to go before proving to the front office and the fans that he is the man for the job. The 2024 season has been a major disappointment for the Cowboys on all fronts. Having started the season as the favorites to win the NFC East and a Super Bowl contender, the Cowboys' season quickly went off the rails. The team suffered multiple embarrassing blowout losses, including to the Eagles at home.
Even though Jones defended McCarthy in every turn, that likely has more to do with him saving money rather than highlighting McCarthy's job security. With the experienced head coach's contract expiring at the end of the season, it's hard to see the organization retaining him barring a major surprise in the last month of the season and the playoffs.
