The Dallas Cowboys are entering the halfway point of the season with a 3-4 record and a very tough four games, Falcons, Eagles, Texans, and the Commanders, awaiting them. If they don't make a significant move before the November 5 trade deadline, the season can take an even bleaker turn.

One of the biggest upgrades fans have been waiting for is in the running back room. The Cowboys rank dead last in the NFL in all rushing stats, including yards, touchdowns, and yards per carry. Ezekiel Elliott is way past his prime and no RB on the team is averaging more than 4.2 yards per attempt.

Fortunately for the Cowboys, there are plenty of running backs available on the trade block. The Carolina Panthers have emerged as a natural trade partner due to their abundance of rushers. Now that their prized rookie Jonathon Brooks is returning from injury, there will not be enough touches to go around for Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders.

Hubbard is obviously the superior option there, but he will likely cost significantly more. Plus, the Panthers may want to hold onto him due to his higher upside. Jerry Jones would prefer to give up fewer assets in a trade anyway.

That is what makes a trade for Miles Sanders an ideal move for the Cowboys. It wouldn't take more than a sixth-round pick to acquire the former Eagles playmaker.

Cowboys/Panthers Trade

Sanders signed a four-year, $25.4 million deal with the Panthers in the 2023 offseason after four productive seasons in Philadelphia. He failed to live up to that contract in Carolina and has been surpassed by Hubbard in the pecking order.

The veteran rusher still has $4.02 million in guaranteed money left on the deal. Some of that would need to be picked up to facilitate a deal.

Sanders has 34 carries, 139 yards, and a touchdown this season. Even though he has not been the same player he was when he was in Philadelphia, he is likely still an upgrade over the options in Dallas.
