Dallas Cowboys fans are still on a high after Von Miller decided that he intended to sign with the Cowboys. We all know Dak Prescott is the captain and the leader of this team, but apparently, he had something to do with Von Miller taking that last step.
That was a trip to Las Vegas where the former Super Bowl MVP talked to Prescott, and the conversation went back to what everyone was thinking. This is Prescott's prime, and all he has to do is go and take it. It was then that Miller decided to come home. (h/t Jon Machota)
“It's crazy because I ran into Dak in Vegas probably like a month ago. He was sitting in the high-limit gambling. I just sat down with Dak and we just started gambling together and talking. And I'm like, 'Hey man, it's about time, Dak. It's about time. You got to break through with one of these teams. You got to break through one of these years. I think this year you'll be able to do it. You got everybody to do it.'
“And I didn't have any inkling on being a Dallas Cowboy. It just happened naturally. And then the Cowboys reached out and I was just like, 'Bro, this is a sign. This is a sign for me.'”
Von Miller running into Dak Prescott over the summer helped big time
It sounds like Miller made his own decision (as all athletes do), but this was kind of the final straw to lure the future Hall of Fame pass rusher to DFW.
Usually, Jerry Jones has been one to come up short on signing big stars like Maxx Crosby, Trey Hendrickson and Myles Garrett, who also have DFW ties but weren't pursued by Jerry Jones. The Cowboys owner says they're still trying to make moves, but honestly, this may already be one of Jones' best offseasons.
Running into QB1 of the Cowboys, who has been battered and bruised while doing the best he can, might've been what Miller needed. With two of the best receivers in the game, Prescott is in prime position to do something special, and he can do that if you add a star defense next to him.
And boy, was it needed. The Cowboys had the worst defense in franchise history. First of all, they gave up 511 points and couldn't cover WRs or pressure the quarterback.
The Joneses did well in the draft class, getting Caleb Downs, the do-it-all safety. Malachi Lawrence is a slow but promising project. Rashan Gary, Dee Winters and Jalen Thompson will be amazing additions to the front seven and the secondaries.
But getting Miller was the cherry on top. The defense looks drastically different from last season to this one, and when you add in one of the best pass rushers coming off a nine-sack season, you're in a good place.
