Cowboys writer just dumped cold water on a Von Miller dream homecoming signing

The future Hall of Famer is clearly interested in Dallas, but can the Joneses say the same?

There is some excitement in the air for the Dallas Cowboys after Von Miller's latest cryptic post on Instagram. The future Hall of Fame pass rusher wore the No. 24 and posted a picture with the song "They Don't Know" by Paul Wall. The lyrics contain tons of pro-Texas references, and he has homegrown ties to North Texas.

We're not sure of what's next, or if anything is up next, but Nick Eatman of the official Cowboys' website shut it down as calmly as possible. It seems Miller is openly interested in joining America's Team, but Eatman says the Cowboys don't feel the same.

"Now, from what I've been told, there isn't much interest right now from the Cowboys' side. But let's get to training camp and see if it appears there is a need for better rushers off the edge. If so, I wouldn't doubt the Cowboys will look for outside options and this one might actually top the list."

NFL Network's Jane Slater also poured some cold water on the Miller rumors, but she didn't completely rule it out. There hasn't been much interest to begin with, but these are two prominent Cowboys sources who don't just hear things through the grapevine.

We still have training camp to go through to see who dives on the scene and who rides the bench, but with Miller on the Cowboys, he provides Super Bowl experience to a group coming off a historically awful defense, and his presence is worth everything.

Speaking of worth, the Cowboys can use Miller on a cheap one-year, $5 million deal, so for Jones, he wouldn't be breaking the bank at all. It's hard to say the Cowboys are "a Von Miller away," because he's 37, but he still racked up nine sacks with Washington last year.

His Pro Football Focus numbers aren't the most attractive, but an overall grade of 64.4 ranked 66th of 115 edge rushers, around the middle of the pack. He did better with 36 QB pressures, and that ranks 53rd out of 115 on PFF.

As it stands now, the Cowboys already have something special going with veterans Kenny Clark, Rashan Gary and Quinnen Williams setting the tone in practices and meetings. Miller would be a "more the merrier" type of selection, but he's an established two-time Super Bowl champion who knows how to lead.

No one's expecting him to be what he was in 2015, but as long as he can give you 35 pressures and seven sacks in a season, let everybody else do the rest.

According to Eatman and Slater, it looks like a long shot to bring Miller home, but you can never say never.
