Dak Prescott Admits Harsh Truth About Failed Cowboys Season
The clock struck midnight on the Dallas Cowboys' season the second that Dak Prescott went down with an injury in Week 9. A partially torn hamstring has put an end to the veteran quarterback's campaign, leaving the Cowboys with Cooper Rush and Trey Lance to handle the duties under center.
Without Prescott in the lineup, America's Team is trending to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2020. While it's been hard for Cowboys fans to survive this season, the experience has also been hard on the $240 million signal-caller, leading to Prescott sharing his feelings about the tumultuous campaign with Dallas Morning News' David Moore.
Cowboys News: Dak Prescott Opens Up About 2024 Season
On Wednesday, Prescott told Moore that the 2024 campaign has been his "toughest" NFL season to date between the summer's contract saga and his current hamstring injury. While getting engaged and starting a family have been highlights, the Cowboys' play has been anything but that.
"Off the field, it’s been some of the most joyous times I ever could have imagined," Prescott said. "But then on the football field, it’s probably been as tough of a season as I’ve ever had. I’d probably say the toughest."
It doesn't help that the Cowboys have struggled offensively in his absence, scoring a total of 16 points in back-to-back losses.
Prescott is competitive by nature and wants nothing more than to be on the field with his teammates, win or lose. Even though he initially felt fine in his absence, it was Monday's 34-10 loss to the Houston Texans that truly put the situation into perspective for the Cowboys' QB1.
"The other day, after the game, I guess, it all just hit me," Prescott admitted. "Boom, right. A couple of tears came down... This is going to hurt. It’s going to suck at times. You just have to understand this is one of the moments that it does."
Even though positives have been hard to come by lately, Prescott is confident that brighter times are on the horizon. He's looking forward to the "small victories" in the coming months, such as when he'll be able to get off crutches and begin to work out his legs again. The goal is for that to happen before Christmas.
"There is a future. I know which direction I’m headed in. I know I will be faster, stronger and better than I ever have by the way I will attack this"

It'll be about 10 months before Prescott will play meaningful games for the Cowboys again. The former 2016 135th-overall selection had led Dallas to a 3-5 record before suffering his injury, competing 64.7% of passes for 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and an 86.0 passer rating along the way.
With Prescott's season over, America's Team must focus on the 2024 campaign's final stretch. The Cowboys' next test comes when they visit the rival Washington Commanders on Sunday.
