Despite a disappointing 1-2-1 start to the season, the Dallas Cowboys have looked like an elite unit on the offensive side of the ball. They have had more yards than any other team and scored the fifth-most points in the league through four weeks. With the schedule letting up a little with the next two matchups against the Jets and the Panthers, Dallas has an excellent opportunity to build momentum.
With how their defense under Matt Eberflus is looking so far, the Cowboys have to outscore their opponents to win games this season. Fortunately, Dak Prescott is having another MVP-caliber season to help them get there. Prescott believes that there is another level the Cowboys can hit upon CeeDee Lamb's return.
Dak Prescott Believes Sky Is the Limit for Cowboys Offense
Speaking about the offensive explosion against the Packers, Prescott said that it should send a message to the rest of the league, and "put them on notice", per ESPN's Todd Archer. He added that once Lamb is back, the Cowboys will have "two 1s" between Pickens and him, giving the offense additional versatility and more weapons. Prescott said that Pickens and Lamb are "guys that you can trust in different positions," and "on dang near any route."
This is obviously coming on the heels of Pickens' best game of the season. In Lamb's absence, he put up eight catches in 11 targets for 134 yards and two TDs. For the season, the former Steelers WR is already up to 300 yards and four touchdowns, putting him on pace to shatter all of his previous career-bests.
Having two WR1-caliber receivers is obviously a huge luxury. Lamb may not be available in Week 5, but he is out of the walking boot and should be able to return to action sooner rather than later. At that point, the Cowboys should have the best one-two punch in the league in the passing game.
Yet, the Cowboys still have a few areas they need to upgrade. The offensive line has been leaving plenty to be desired, and the slew of injuries there complicates matters. If this offense is going to hit another level like Prescott is suggesting, it needs better play from the offensive line. Giving Prescott more time in the pocket and helping the running back rotation run more effectively could elevate the passing game further.
If that doesn't happen, there is only so much the Prescott-Lamb-Pickens trio can do to carry this them to the postseason.
