Dak Prescott Gives Surprise Comments on Cowboys' Coaching Drama
By Jack Gurley
Just a few weeks ago, it was assumed that Mike McCarthy’s time with the Cowboys was nearing an end, and he would not be with the franchise once this dreadful season came to an end. I even went as far as to write an article a few weeks ago aboutthree potential new teams McCarthy could be a part of next season.
However, with the Cowboys winning their past two games, opinions about McCarthy have quickly changed. Many have vocalized these past few weeks that McCarthy might deserve another shot in Dallas, including the team's franchise quarterback Dak Prescott, who gave a surprising endorsement to his current head coach.
While Prescott is not currently able to help save his coach's job on the field due to a season-ending hamstring injury he suffered a little less than a month ago, he has spoken up the past week and made it known that he is still in support of McCarthy.
“I believe in him wholeheartedly”. Prescott went on to speak about the current status of McCarthy's job, saying, “I think he definitely deserves a chance -- another contract and a chance to coach this team amongst more influence. 'On his terms' may be a good way to say it.”
Many were surprised about Prescott's endorsement of McCarthy earlier this week because they were uncertain of his current opinion of McCarthy and whether or not he would be willing to work with him once again. However, this endorsement of McCarthy is a clear indication that Prescott still stands by his coach during these trying times.
Along with Prescott, former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman gave his opinion on McCarthy when he spoke highly of the Cowboys coach a couple of weeks ago on his Monday Night: "You’ve heard me say it before, but Mike McCarthy is a hell of a football coach,"
With not one but two Cowboys quarterbacks vocalizing their support of McCarthy it has to make Jerry Jones along with the rest of the Cowboys front office think twice about cutting ties with McCarthy once the season comes to an end.
While Prescott’s or even Aikman’s support of McCarthy will not guarantee that he will be back next season, it does imply that no final decision has been made about McCarthy yet, and he still has a chance to remain at the helm for the Cowboys going forward.
With five more games to go for the Cowboys , it will be imperative that McCarthy finds some success in the next few weeks. If not, his time in Dallas could be nearing an end.
