The 2025 offseason for the Dallas Cowboys was controversial, to say the least. Micah Parsons ended up on the Green Bay Packers in a contract saga that could not be solved, but months before that, George Pickens was traded to the Cowboys, and some were opposed to that.
Today, not so much. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler has ranked the top wide receivers around the league. Lamb was ranked No. 6, and Pickens was ranked No. 7. No surprise for Lamb, but this shows how he was right on the money when describing how he and Pickens would be viewed on the field last summer.
"We're both ones. There's no A/B, none of that. You look over there, you see one. You look over here, you see another one. So, do what you got to do with that."
CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are right next to each other in WR rankings
Past on-field antics made fans quick to object to the Pickens addition, but it was CeeDee Lamb who offered fans some hope when he stood next to Lamb and said, "We're both No. 1 guys." He already has an argument to pick with Stefon Diggs, who claimed there's no WR2 better than him. Well, Stefon, it appears the Cowboys' "WR2" has surpassed you by a mile.
Lamb even supported Pickens in his contract situation by going to the media and saying he doesn't care if Pickens makes more cash. That's a mature stance but also a strong testament to the work Pickens has put in.
Fowler further drove that claim of 1A/1B by sharing the opinion of an NFL coordinator on who the real No. 1 receiver is when planning to play the Cowboys.
"It's Pickens, he has emerged."an NFL coordinator
One veteran coach said he's tough to go against in one-on-one battles.
"One of the best I've ever seen at the contested catch, There's such untapped ability there. It's just a consistency issue and where his head's at week to week."a veteran NFL offensive coach
Was this the biggest fleece in the NFL last season? The Steelers got a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick, but the Cowboys got a breakout receiver in Pickens. Even though people poke fun at Jerry Jones, the fans have to give him some credit here.
Pickens went off for 93 catches, 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. Maybe all he needed was Dak Prescott instead of a trainwreck of quarterback play in Pittsburgh. That's not to say any of Pickens' QBs were terrible, but he never had a consistent QB to rely on.
Pickens' intentions for the 2026 season are as clear as day now. He wants to be in Dallas, which is good for him, Lamb and Dak Prescott. There are still financial questions about affording Pickens next season, but another repeat campaign should land him his biggest deal yet.
