One of the most criticized decisions of the Cowboys offseason was letting veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore walk. Despite the talented defender waiting for a new contract for a long time, Jerry Jones refused to give the 34-year-old a new deal. As a result, Gilmore signed with the Minnesota Vikings for a one-year, $10 million contract.

The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year started the season strong in Minnesota but lately started to show signs of age-related decline. This reached its peak in Week 8 when the Vikings visited Los Angeles to take on the Rams.

CB Stephon Gilmore Struggles Immensely vs. Rams in Week 8

The Vikings suffered their second-straight loss as they fell 30-20 to the Rams, falling to 5-2 for the season. Gilmore struggled in his 66 defensive snaps, receiving his lowest PFF grade of the season with 44.7. The Pro Bowler was targeted eight times and allowed six catches for 98 yards and a touchdown. He also had a missed tackle for the third straight game.

This was the second straight game Gilmore allowed over 150 passer rating to the opposing quarterback.

Dallas has its own struggles, and having Gilmore around during DaRon Bland's injury would have been very helpful. At the same time, seeing an NFC contender struggle on the defensive end is certainly a good sign for the Cowboys.

Gilmore still has a 62.4 defensive grade on PFF for the season. However, if his downward trajectory continues, he could lose his starting job in Minnesota.
