The Dallas Cowboys saw several players come and go during free agency, with owner Jerry Jones looking to do whatever he can to bring this franchise closer to contention, where it belongs.
Unfortunately for one member of the 2024 roster who elected to sign elsewhere this offseason, the grass doesn't appear to be greener on the other side. His place on the roster is in question coming out of minicamp and OTAs, and cutting bait sooner rather than later wouldn't cost his new franchise any money, and that is a factor that must be considered when discussing roster decisions such as this.
Former Cowboys CB Amani Oruwariye Could Be Cut By New Team in July
Amani Oruwariye signed a one-year, $1.17 million contract with the Tennessee Titans this offseason after spending the 2024 campaign as a member of the Cowboys. While Oruwariye only appeared in seven games for Dallas last season, four of which he started, he did make his presence felt by recording a total of 29 tackles, 23 of those coming as solo stops, to go along with one interception and three pass deflections.
He also tallied Pro Football Focus grades of 63.9 for coverage and 60.0 for overall defense, respectively.
That performance wasn't enough to keep Oruwariye with the Cowboys moving forward. It enticed the Titans enough to give the former fifth-round pick from the 2019 NFL draft a look, though. As noted earlier, there was no guaranteed money attached to Oruwariye's deal with Tennessee, and there has been very little news regarding his play thus far.
Typically, that isn't a great sign for a player on a fully non-guaranteed deal.
If Oruwariye does not prove his worth early on, once training camp opens in Nashville on July 22, the former starting cornerback for the Cowboys could find himself back on the free agent market and trying to find a new home within the league long before the preseason ends.
