The Dallas Cowboys have needed to find talent in the NFL Draft to put around a series of big-money contracts. With Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb getting paid (and Micah Parsons not far behind) the Cowboys have needed to mine talent out of the later rounds in the draft to put a competitive team on the field.

That plan hasn’t gone well as Dallas slumped to a 7-10 record after three straight 12-win seasons. The Cowboys have made changes to get the most out of their drafted talent since the season ended but it still comes down to finding the right people to get the team over the hump and earn their first playoff victory since 1996.

One of the Cowboys’ most recent draft busts was kicked to the curb at the beginning of the season and after one year with his new team, he finds himself back on the market and looking for another opportunity.

Former Cowboys CB Nahshon Wright Cut By Vikings After One Season

The Minnesota Vikings have announced that they have released cornerback Nahshon Wright. Minnesota acquired Wright from Dallas in exchange for fellow cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. last August after Wright had an underwhelming career with the Cowboys.

A third-round pick (99th overall) by the Cowboys in the 2021 NFL Draft, Wright appeared in 13 games but made just nine total tackles while playing special teams during his rookie season. Wright appeared in seven games with a career-high 23 tackles, four passes defended, and his first career interception during the 2022 season but he was limited to 12 games during the 2023 season due to an ankle injury.

After three unproductive seasons, Wright was traded to Minnesota during training camp but he never worked his way into the rotation appearing in just one game.

The Cowboys got slightly more from Booth, but it was a low bar to clear. A second-round pick by the Vikings in the 2022 draft, Booth appeared in seven games but posted a 35.6 overall grade and a 28.7 grade in coverage according to Pro Football Focus. While he has one year left on his rookie contract, he also has an uphill climb to make next year’s roster after the Cowboys traded for Kaiir Elam from the Buffalo Bills and could select a quarterback in next month’s draft.

The deal wound up being a wash for both teams who were looking to move on from a pair of draft mistakes. With both teams still searching for corners, it could lead the Vikings and Cowboys to pursue help in the upcoming draft and have both players searching for new homes in advance of next season.
