The Dallas Cowboys have been fortunate enough to have one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, CeeDee Lamb. But while Lamb has become a superstar since his arrival in the 2020 draft, the second receiver spot has been more of a carousel.

The Cowboys went through last season using Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin, and Brandin Cooks in the WR2 spot. But the list of names since Lamb arrived is something that could help football fans get a low score on Immaculate Grid.

One of those names entered retirement after lining up across from Lamb during his first four seasons in the league and his comeback has landed him with an NFC East rival.

Former Cowboys WR Michael Gallup Comes Out of Retirement to Join Commanders

Michael Gallup is making a comeback after spending last season in retirement and agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders.

Gallup was a third-round pick by the Cowboys in the 2018 NFL Draft and the Colorado State product was impressive, catching 66 passes for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns during the 2019 season. Lamb was supposed to free up opportunities for Gallup – and he received 105 targets during the 2020 season – but it didn’t translate to production with 59 catches for 843 yards and five touchdowns.

After suffering a torn ACL in the 2021 season, Gallup struggled to catch 73 passes for 842 yards and six touchdowns in his final two seasons in Dallas. With another opportunity in Washington, he’ll look to crack a depth chart that includes Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, Noah Brown, and Luke McCaffrey.

Gallup’s status on the depth chart suggests it would take a lot to create an opportunity to haunt the Cowboys. But with Dallas still looking for a second receiver to pair with Lamb, it could be a reminder of a talent the Cowboys lost out on.
