This offseason, the Dallas Cowboys revamped their running back room. They brought in veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders on one-year deals, and then took Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah in the 2025 NFL Draft.

With four new faces in the running back room, it put Deuce Vaughn on the chopping block this summer. Vaughn has struggled to contribute over his first two years of his NFL career after a stellar collegiate career.

The former sixth-round pick gave his best effort in the preseason, showcasing his skills as a runner, a pass catcher out of the backfield, and a returner, but it wasn’t good enough. Dallas thanked Vaughn for his time, waiving him last week during roster cutdown day.

However, it appears that the former Cowboy is getting some attention on the workout circuit this week from Javonte Williams’ old squad.

Ex-Cowboys RB Deuce Vaughn Gifted Workout from Denver Broncos

According to Zac Stevens of DNVR, the Denver Broncos worked out the 23-year-old Vaughn on Tuesday.

It’s a funny coincidence to see the Broncos, Williams’ old team, bring Vaughn in for a tryout. The new Cowboys running back spent four seasons in Denver, where he had 2,394 rushing yards but only 11 touchdowns.

At this stage, the Broncos don’t need a running back on the 53-man roster, as they have four capable options in J.K. Dobbins, R.J. Harvey (rookie), Tyler Badie, and Jaleel McLaughlin.

However, Denver doesn’t have a running back on its practice squad. Usually, most teams roster three RBs on their active roster, with the fourth on the taxi squad. It’s rare to see on the 53-man.

But if the Broncos were to lose McLaughlin to injury at some point this season, they could bring in a guy like Vaughn.

At 5-foot-6, 176 pounds, he isn’t an everyday back in the NFL. Still, Vaughn could be a nice change of pace option as a pass catcher out of the backfield – 10 receptions (12 targets) for 58 yards across 14 games.

Nonetheless, we’ll keep an eye on Vaughn to see if he signs with the Broncos or gets another workout in the coming weeks.
