It was a rough 2025 season for the Dallas Cowboys, but we had some victories that only a few expected. For example, Javonte Williams broke out and earned a long-term three-year, $24 million deal this offseason.
Last summer, we were looking forward to watching then-rookie Jaydon Blue doing the same and climbing his way up from the depth chart, but after an injury and some healthy scratches, it turns out he just wasn't ready to take that next step yet. Brian Schottenheimer called Blue a great talent, but he had too many consistency issues.
This time around, it's different. In a press conference, Schottenheimer says he sees a whole new Blue compared to last season.

Brian Schottenheimer says Cowboys second-year RB Jaydon Blue is making strides
This is already a step up from last season, but we were expecting Blue to make some impact even as a rookie. That didn't happen, but it didn't matter, as Williams was already comfortable with the load he was given.
Blue gave fans a show in Week 18 last season when he ran the ball 16 times for 64 yards and a touchdown. He told the media it was a preview of next season, and Schottenheimer is repeating that same sentiment.
"Intelligence is off the charts. The guy is football brilliant. He really is, and obviously, you see the speed and explosiveness. He's going to be a huge part of what we want to do, but he's got to continue to do his part, which he's doing great right now."
There was a lot of speculation about who RB2 would be next season. Malik Davis made a case for himself late last season, but there's still a large gap between him and Williams. Davis has a case for still making the team, but if Schotty is all over Blue now, can he take the throne from Davis?
Blue can make a man miss with his incredible speed and footwork. He ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, and Cowboys fans have been ready to see what he can do with the football in his hands. With Williams being the bowling ball running back, Blue is someone who can play on third downs as a receiver to give Williams some rest.
Williams' pass-blocking has also been on display as a weapon for the offense, but if Blue can get up to that level and contribute without the ball in his hands, he's going to be the perfect backup.
Nick Chubb has been linked to the Cowboys as a cheap and decent backup to Williams, but according to Schotty, they don't need it. Blue has gotten over his rookie woes, and if Schotty's "night and day" comment holds, it looks like the Cowboys have settled one of their biggest questions.
