The Dallas Cowboys entered the 2024 season with sky-high expectations but that quickly came crashing down.

Once Dak Prescott went down in Week 9 with a season-ending hamstring injury, the expectation that Dallas would make a run significantly decreased. They handed over the starting quarterback job to Cooper Rush.

Even though Rush has been the starter for the past five games, people are wondering if Trey Lance will get a chance to start but owner Jerry Jones shut down that idea once again.

Cowboys News: Jerry Jones Says Trey Lance Won’t Start

Jones made his appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday morning and expressed he doesn't think it's time to hand over the QB job to Lance.

"Wins are important for us. Very important for us. This is a young team."

Jones believes Rush gives them the best chance to win games. Dallas has gone 2-3 with him as the starter this season. They don't think they would have the same level of production at the quarterback position with Lance at the helm.

This season, Rush has thrown for 1,191 passing yards with seven passing touchdowns. The 31-year-old has 11 career starts under his belt and that experience is valuable for the Cowboys.

Before the 2023 season started, Dallas shipped out a 2024 fourth-round pick in exchange for Lance but he's been parked on the bench. When he was acquired, it was known that he was a project due to his lack of NFL starts and reps. Lance only has four starts in his career.

During the 2024 preseason, Lance went 73-of-113 for 662 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also logged 168 rushing yards and a rushing score. The 24-year-old hasn't impressed the coaching staff enough to get an opportunity to play. And that won't change going forward.
