The Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons are still working through contract negotiations as the two sides hope to agree on an extension sooner rather than later.

Parsons is doing his part to be a good teammate and leader, even though the deal he deserves has not been completed. His frustrations seem to be boiling over as these negotiations drag on, as the Cowboys star's peers within the league are working on new deals of their own, for more money than Jerry Jones had been willing to give up to keep the All-Pro defender in Dallas.

From the sound of things, Jones has no one to blame but himself for allowing things to get to this point, and longtime Cowboys reporter Clarence Hill Jr. detailed what the upcoming deals for players like TJ Watt mean for Parsons and the contract Dallas will have to pony up to keep him as a centerpiece of the roster.

"According to Parsons, the deal that (TJ) Watt is seeking is more than what he and Jones talked about. And he said he has seen the number," Hill wrote. "Therefore, his deal is going to go up, which means the Cowboys are going to be paying more."

Slow-playing this process for as long as Jones and the Cowboys front office have makes very little sense for Dallas. There is no doubt that they want Parsons to be part of the picture, and the former Penn State University star seems to feel the same way about Dallas.

This comes down to money, and Parsons has earned every dollar he is going to get out of this next contract. One way or another, the cost of business has been increasing with every passing day. That is how contract negotiations work when it comes to the top earners in the NFL and the leverage they hold over teams.

It is hard to envision Parsons suiting up anywhere other than Dallas moving forward, and Jones knows the type of blowback he'd receive if the All-Pro forced his way out of town. In the end, this increases the cost for Jones, and he has no one but himself to blame for that fact. He is calling the shots from the Cowboys' side of the negotiations.
