Jerry Jones Divides Cowboys Locker Room With His Controversial Diet
The 2024 season has been a disaster for the Dallas Cowboys. Every season, they believe it's the year they will win the Super Bowl, but it consistently fails.
This season is no different, as the Cowboys are 6-8 going into Week 16. Dallas' chances of making the playoffs are less than 1% according to NFL.com.
This group has a battle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football but owner Jerry Jones always finds a way to take over the headline. On Tuesday, during his appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones discussed his unique food choices, which include raccoons and squirrels.
Cowboys News: Jerry Jones Admits To Eating Squirrels and Raccoons
This topic came up since Carolina Panthers rookie WR Xavier Legette revealed he ate raccoons during an appearance on the "St. Brown" podcast. The 82-year-old added that he has eaten both squirrels and raccoons.
"I've eaten a lot of raccoon. Yes, the answer is yes. I've eaten it hunting, and I've actually had it served by my mom at the table away from hunting. ... It's not uncommon at all. ... One of my favorites is squirrel. It's wonderful, and my mother could do a great job of [preparing] it. We all had our favorite pieces. ... My mom and I would even ask for the brain in a squirrel. Delicious. Seriously."

Those comments had a mixed review in the locker room. WR KaVontae Turpin, who is from Louisiana, added that he's eaten squirrels before.
Turpin said, "In Louisiana, we eat those types of things. Alligator, frog legs, all that type of stuff. That's the type of stuff we eat. So yeah, I feel what Jerry is talking about. ... We fry all that [squirrel brains and more] down there in Louisiana. That's how we eat all that down there in Louisiana. ... I don't know how Jerry eat his, but we fry ours in Louisiana. ... Squirrel legs, squirrel brain. We keep it all fried like chicken, that's how we eat ours."
With Turpin being from Louisiana and Jones from Arkansas, you can see why they relate to this kind of cuisine.
That same thought wasn't felt throughout the entire locker room though. Cornerback Jourdan Lewis, who is from Detroit, doesn't feel the same.
He stated, "Maybe quail, maybe that's the gamiest thing I've ever got. I like bison. All the raccoons and stuff, I'm from up north. Detroit. We don't eat too many things like that. ... I'm basic proteins, I'm ok. ... I'm from up north. I don't know nothing about that bro."
This is an interesting topic of discussion that's happening inside the Cowboys locker room, but Jones always finds a way to get some kind of conversation going. This is just the latest example.
