Jerry Jones Reveals Disastrous Cowboys Coach Move is on the Table
The Dallas Cowboys' 2024 season has been a complete nightmare and disaster. They entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations, and that quickly went up in flames.
Quarterback Dak Prescott is ruled out for the season due to a hamstring injury, and there are multiple holes along the roster. In addition, the rushing attack and the defense have taken a step back.
It was assumed that head coach Mike McCarthy's contract wouldn't be extended after the season, but owner Jerry Jones gave fans a reason to doubt that theory.
Cowboys News: Jerry Jones Doesn’t Rule Out Extending Mike McCarthy
Jones made his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday and didn't rule out giving McCarthy an extension.
"I don't think that's crazy at all. This is a Super Bowl-winning coach. Mike McCarthy has been there and done that. He has great ideas. We got a lot of football left."
- Jerry Jones
The Cowboys are 4-7 on the season but found a way to snap their five-game losing streak in Week 12. Dallas traveled and defeated the Washington Commanders 34-26, giving the team a jolt of energy. That win is clearly clouding Jones' judgment, making him believe they have a chance to make the playoffs.
It was a great win for Dallas against an emerging Commanders team led by Dan Quinn. Despite that, the Cowboys aren't going to make any noise. Even though Dallas made the postseason the past three seasons under McCarthy, they have consistently failed to make a deep postseason run.
Extending him and keeping him around will certainly annoy the fanbase. McCarthy did secure Super Bowl XLV, but that was 13 years ago. Under his guidance, they haven't made it to the NFC Championship. A place they haven't been since 1995.
We'll have to see how the rest of the season unfolds but the win against the Commanders changed the outlook around McCarthy for some reason.
