It's been a nightmare season for the Dallas Cowboys. They are currently 3-5 and have a contest against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10.

Last week, Dallas fell to the Atlanta Falcons 27-21. Not only did they lose the game, but quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a hamstring injury that is expected to sideline him for an extended period of time.

Dallas will have Cooper Rush as the starter, but owner Jerry Jones revealed that the team may have some packages for Trey Lance.

Cowboys News: Jerry Jones Hints at Trey Lance Packages

During his appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Friday, Jones opened the door for potential Lance packages.

"Oh, there is a window for Trey Lance. There are packages we can work on. Let me be clear, that's just not to get Lance some playing time, that's to bring to the table some offense for us. ... He's a big threat with his legs."

The 24-year-old does have the athleticism to pick up yards with his legs and Dallas is already thinking of ways to boost their offense with Prescott on the sideline. While that sounds good in theory, who knows if that would even be effective?

First off, Jones just exposed that Lance's offensive packages would likely be running plays. Why would you telegram your game plan to the media?

Secondly, Lance has only logged 54 carries for 235 rushing yards and one touchdown in his NFL career. Is he really that dynamic as a runner? Who knows but looking to get Lance on the field to keep defenses off balance doesn't sound appealing.

Another reason they looking at Lance for some production on the ground is because they didn't do anything in the offseason to boost their ground attack, which ranks 31st in the NFL in rushing offense (82) and last in rushing touchdowns (3). Maybe if the Cowboys made real additions at running back they wouldn't need potential Lance packages.

Regardless of what Jones says, it'll be an uphill climb for Dallas to overcome the loss of Prescott and make a playoff push.
