Jimmy Johnson Berates Jerry Jones for Dak Prescott Contract
The 2024 season has been extremely underwhelming for the Dallas Cowboys. They entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations, but those plans quickly went up in flames.
The Cowboys had Micah Parsons go down for an extended period of time with a high-ankle sprain, and quarterback Dak Prescott is done for the season with a hamstring injury.
Before the season began, Prescott inked a massive four-year, $240 million deal, making him the highest-paid QB in the league, earning $60 million annually. Former Dallas head coach Jimmy Johnson was a guest on Fox Sports 'The Herd,' and he thinks the Cowboys made a mistake giving Prescott that monster deal.
Cowboys News: Jimmy Johnson Thinks Dallas Made a Mistake With Dak Prescott Contract
Johnson, who won two Super Bowls with Dallas, was asked by the host, Colin Cowherd, what he would do this offseason if he was running the show. He revealed that he wouldn't have given Prescott that deal.
"I would never have given Prescott a new contract. I'd have let him play it out... They're so financially strapped right now. I don't know what they do."

He has a point that they are cash-strapped. Dallas will have just $25 million in cap space for the 2025 offseason. And they have a monster Parsons extension on the horizon. They also gave CeeDee Lamb $34 million a year.
Johnson added that the Cowboys should have rode it out with Prescott and paid him after the season, saying that he's the highest-paid player in the league but isn't the best one.
The 81-year-old does have a point. Prescott is extremely talented but isn't the best player at his position. He's also struggled when it counted the most. Prescott is 2-5 in the postseason and has failed to lead Dallas to the NFC Championship, a place they haven't been too since 1995.
The Cowboys have a lot of work to do this offseason if they want to make significant improvements to the roster but it won't be easy.
