The Dallas Cowboys make some intriguing coaching-related moves this offseason as head coach Brian Schottenheimer prepares for his first year behind the bench. Unsurprisingly, Schottenheimer's arrival means the Cowboys had to say goodbye to several coaching staff members in recent weeks — including one who was just hired to another ex-Dallas coach's staff.
Cowboys News: Kellen Moore Hires Former Dallas QBs Coach Scott Tolzien
On Tuesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Saints have hired Scott Tolzien as their new quarterbacks coach. The former Wisconsin Badger spent the last five seasons working with the Cowboys as a coaching assistant (2020-22) and QBs coach (2023-24) until his contract expired at the start of the offseason.

Tolzien now joins former Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who was hired as the new Saints head coach following Super Bowl 59. The Prosser, WA native spent five seasons coaching in Dallas, including when he was the OC during Tolzien's first three years with the franchise.
Moore left the Cowboys following the 2022 campaign, spending one season working as an offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers and, most recently, the Philadelphia Eagles.
It's going to be interesting to see what kind of impact Tolzien will have on a Saints' QB room that finished 2024 with the 10th-worst passing grade on Pro Football Focus. Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott has been one of the NFL's top quarterbacks under Tolzien's watch, having racked up 15,659 passing yards, 116 touchdowns (to 46 interceptions), and a 99.2 passer rating in 58 starts across the last five seasons.
Tolzien isn't the only former Cowboys staffer joining Moore in New Orleans. It was only on Thursday when the Saints hired Chase Haslett as their tight ends coach. The Clayton, MO native worked several roles during his five-year run in the Lone Star State, including assistant TEs coach and pass game coordinator.
Being an NFL coach is all about surrounding oneself with a well-trusted staff. That seems to be how Moore is operating to begin his Saints tenure, leaving time to tell if hiring former Cowboys staff members will pay off.
