The Dallas Cowboys have been weathering the storm as they've had several players miss time. One defender who's been sidelined for the entire season thus far is linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and fans are wondering when "Agent 0" will make his 2025 debut.
On Friday, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported that Overshown is close to practicing and the team expects to open his 21-day practice window later in the month of October. They have goals for him playing in November, which is great news for fans.
Although the Cowboys are still weeks away from Overshown stepping on the field, his return will put fellow LB Jack Sanborn on notice.
DeMarvion Overshown Impending Return Puts Jack Sanborn on Notice
Sanborn joined the Cowboys on a one-year, $1.5 million deal in free agency. He had experience and history playing under defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus from their time in Chicago.
He has started five games for Dallas in 2025, logging 34 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass deflection. Sanborn had his difficulties as a run and pass defender. According to Pro Football Focus, he has a 56.3 overall grade (95th among 137 graded linebackers), 54.7 run-defense grade (114th among 137 graded linebackers), and a 58.6 coverage grade (62nd among 137 graded linebackers).
Sanborn suffered a concussion in the game against the New York Jets and has been ruled out for the contest against the Carolina Panthers. That led to Shemar Jones stepping in and playing a season-high 60 total snaps versus New York. In that outing, Jones had 15 total tackles, higher than any mark that Sanborn put up in any game this season.
Considering Sanborn is on a one-year deal and has struggled in action thus far in 2025, this injury could be bad news. Once Overshown is back in action and ready to take the field, he will immediately chew into the reps at LB. That could lead to less playing time for Sanborn going forward.
Before going down with an injury, Overshown had 90 total tackles, eight TFLs, five QB hits, four pass deflections, and one interception. He was an athletic and disruptive force in the middle of the field. He tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL in 2024, so he'll need time to get back up to speed, but the Cowboys will likely let him do so on the field.
Overshown is the future at the LB room; meanwhile, Sanborn will hit free agency after the year. The Cowboys shouldn't hesitate to cut his playing time, and that could happen as soon as November.
