Longtime Cowboy Sealing His Own Offseason Exit With Poor Play
This has been such a disappointing season for the Dallas Cowboys. They are 3-5 after falling 27-21 to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. This team has now dropped three games in a row and has a divisional tilt against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10.
Multiple players have been underwhelming in 2024. Quarterback Dak Prescott left the game with a hamstring injury and was caught talking smack about the team on the sideline. While that was happening, guard Zack Martin struggled massively in the loss and was called out by fans on Twitter.
Cowboys News: Zack Martin’s Play Gets Called Out on Social Media
In the loss to the Falcons, Martin finished with a 57.9 overall grade and has three straight games with a run-blocking grade of 50 or fewer per PFF.
In Week 9 against Atlanta, Martin notched a 49.7 run blocking grade, with three pressures and two hurries allowed. He missed multiple blocking assignments, including a block on a screen play in the first quarter.
Martin used to be one of the best guards in the NFL, but it appears those days are behind him now. The 33-year-old has seen his play dip, which could be a combination of age with wear and tear.
This is easily Martin's worst season in his NFL career. He's never allowed more than four sacks and 22 pressures in a season but is already close to these numbers after eight games. Martin has allowed three sacks and 19 pressures in 2024.
Back in 2023, Martin signed a two-year, $36 million extension with Dallas. He will have a $10.6 million cap hit in 2025, but his play this season may have sealed his fate long-term in Dallas.
