One would hope that the recent results for the Dallas Cowboys' defense would invite drastic changes. Even if the franchise wasn't going to fire defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, there should be schematic and personnel changes that give the Cowboys a better chance to turn around the recent results. Whether it is being blown off the field by Caleb Williams or losing to Bryce Young, the defense is inventing ways to make young and subpar quarterbacks look like MVP candidates. Still, Eberflus remains stubbornly loyal to a failing system, with ESPN's Todd Archer reporting the latest comments.

Eberflus made it known that while the defense would make slight changes, “we know the solution is in the room.” Furthering this, the DC made it clear that any changes would be minor tweaks, that there was still a high level of belief in the system. A very odd sentiment when you're sitting out of contention due to a defense that is painful to watch. It is difficult to find a starting quarterback in the league that fans could honestly argue the unit capable of shutting down. Still, Eberflus refuses to hit the panic button.

Cowboys Fans Will be Understandably Annoyed by Latest Matt Eberflus Comments

Eberflus is making it clear he is going to go down with the ship when it comes to the system he is running. Either the franchise is going to figure out how to improve under the current construction, or the coordinator has to go. There simply isn't another path based on these comments and how the coach is handling the situation. One could easily argue that the better outlook would be a willingness from Eberflus to do whatever it takes to win.

Instead, the Cowboys are stuck running a system that isn't working with a coach who has proven his inability to adjust. It seems this attitude is going to be the downfall just as it was for the former Chicago Bears coach during his tenure with the franchise.

There simply isn't a defense of the poor level of play from the current pieces. Even after the loss of Micah Parsons, expectations remain far higher than the product that is currently being put on the field. Making matters worse is the fact that the coach is simply doubling down, refusing to make needed changes.

Fans have every reason for a high level of frustration, and it is impossible to see any path to the defensive coordinator finding a way to hold his position until the end of the year. More calculated decision-makers would've already parted ways with the failing coach. Especially after his continued insistence on running a failing system. Far from reassuring for an already annoyed fan base.
