Many Dallas Mavericks fans have favored the best player in franchise history joining the front office in some capacity, but it looks like Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki is doing OK where he is now.
The current NBA on Prime Video analyst has been there since the inception, which was only a season ago, but he's with one of his best friends, Steve Nash and three-time champion Udonis Haslem. Fans have also speculated about the possibility of him joining the Mavericks, and Mike Curtis from The Dallas Morning News did a Q&A with the Mavericks legend about whether he would do that one day.
"It’s hard to predict, especially with the Amazon gig. We do a lot of traveling for that. I was gone for weeks at a time. It’s going to be hard to be full-time, but Masai and I have exchanged numerous texts over the summer."

Of course, he only finished one season at Prime, and if we're honest, he's having a pretty good time. He's getting paid full-time to talk hoops with your best friend and other NBA elites, and getting to fool around on camera? That's the dream job.
There's also a smidge of a chance he leaves the door open to join the Mavericks one day, and he told Curtis that the conversation is pretty casual for now.
"We have some history, so I’m sure as time goes on here, we’re gonna meet up and talk relationship, talk Mavs, and when the time is right, I’m sure we’re going to start that conversation, but as of now, we just exchanged some texts, and that’s really that."
For a while, it looked like Nowitzki no longer wanted to be a part of the conversation when Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. He mentored Doncic and acted like a father figure to him. Not to mention, they were teammates for a season, and the torch was passed as smoothly as possible.
When Doncic was traded, Nowitzki, like Mavs fans, was heartbroken. He even followed Doncic to watch a game in Los Angeles after he was traded. Nico Harrison clearly lost the loyalty part of the Mavericks, and Nowitzki wanted no part of it.
Since then, Nowitzki has treated Cooper Flagg the same way, and Flagg has been more than happy to hear from Nowitzki regularly. This opened up a new door for the Mavs to bring Nowitzki in for a full-time job, but still, don't get your hopes up. Flagg is the future, and this would be a perfect time for Dirk to come back.
He previously held a special advisor job with the Mavericks in 2021, so there's a history with him working in the organization. But he's having a great time at Prime Video now.
There's some hope that he comes back to the Mavs full-time, and if anyone could do it, president Masai Ujiri is someone to help bring back the Mavs legend.
