Michael Irvin is one of the best wide receivers and players in Dallas Cowboys history, and whenever he speaks, people listen. He recently stamped CeeDee Lamb as the best WR talent in team history.
That's not just No. 88. It sounds like Irvin is conceding that Lamb is the best WR ever to wear a Cowboys uniform. It's strong words for someone who's about to enter his seventh NFL season. By Irvin's seventh NFL season, he had won two Super Bowls. It's not the best comparison, because Lamb is one of the best players in Cowboys history, but Irvin's words hold some weight here.
Dan Pompei from The Athletic wrote an article about why the Cowboys' No. 88 is more than just a number. Why hasn't it been retired yet? Well, it's because there's always going to be a guy like Lamb, Irvin, or Dez Bryant that comes in every once in a while.
“The 88 we got now is the most talented of us all,” Irvin says. “Drew was all about big plays. Small body, but he could get across that middle. I was just going to bully you. You know, not fast, none of that. Dez was a beast playing basketball outside. But CeeDee Lamb has all of it. He has all of it.”

In the Cowboys' record books, Lamb holds many titles. He has the most receptions and receiving yards in a single season and is the first Cowboy to reach 7,000 career receiving yards within his first six seasons.
Lamb may have been the chosen one, but he's also been fortunate to have Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Dak Prescott as his quarterbacks, and he's always had a natural gift. He may not be the biggest guy out there, but he's one of the best route runners in the game, and he can create holes in the open field to run through.
He doesn't have to be the flashiest to be the best out there, and as I said, he's natural. He doesn't have to try to be something he's not. He's got the height, route-running and energy to burst anywhere on the field. Maybe only Drew Pearson was known for his deep threat ability. Bryant and Irvin were known for their tremendous catching abilities, and Lamb has all of that, including the mentality to correct his mistakes.
Irvin finished his career with three Super Bowl championships and one of the loudest personalities. His words here mean a lot, and we should treat them as such.
Hopefully, Lamb can end his No. 88 lore with a Super Bowl ring. He seems to think he can do so with George Pickens right next to him.
