Mike McCarthy Just Proved He's Too Delusional to Turn Around Cowboys Season
The Dallas Cowboys are 3-4 on the season. They have lost two games in a row, with the latest loss coming at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers.
There was hope that Dallas would be able to rebound after their bye but that wasn't the case. Instead, the same problems that have persisted throughout the year were highlighted once again in the loss to San Francisco.
Instead of being honest about the team, head coach Mike McCarthy's postgame comments show he won't be able to turn this season around.
Cowboys News: Mike McCarthy Post Game Comments Are Jarring
Following the loss, McCarthy spoke to team reporters and continued to preach about being able to run the ball while stopping it on the defensive side.
"We got to keep working. We did some things, but we got to stop the run and stay committed to the run for four quarters. Until we get that pattern working cohesively together, we’re not playing to our strength."
- Mike McCarthy
While this sounds like coach speak, this shows that McCarthy won't be able to right the ship in 2024. In the loss to the 49ers, Dallas only mustered 56 rushing yards while giving up 223 yards on the ground.
These problems have handicapped the Cowboys all season long and won't change in 2024. Dallas is last in the league in rushing offense (74.1) and 31st in run defense (154.6).
For McCarthy to continue to act like the Cowboys will magically be able to fix these two things in the season shows he's not the right guy to turn this around.
Unfortunately for Cowboy fans, this team looks soft and that reflects badly on the head coach. The way things are trending, McCarthy's time in Dallas will be over sooner rather than later.
