The Dallas Cowboys' plan for a head coach in 2025 remains a mystery. Earlier in the week, it was reported the Cowboys denied Mike McCarthy the chance to interview for the Chicago Bears job even though Jerry Jones told him he could interview for other openings.

Then, it was reported McCarthy and team leadership had a lengthy discussion about the future on Tuesday. Yet, there was no word on how the discussions went. That said, while McCarthy may not have been able to interview for the Bears job, he has interviewed for other openings and seems to be interested in a few other openings if things don't work out with Dallas.

According to a recent article from Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler, McCarthy could draw interest from the New Orleans Saints.

Fowler said, "I've heard that Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy could have some interest, so it wouldn't shock if the Saints try to talk to him should he be free to do so (McCarthy's contract with the Cowboys expires Tuesday). Fowler added that the Saints' Job seems to be a coveted position according to the people he's spoken to.

Cowboys News: Mike McCarthy has interest in being Saints' next head coach

Reading that McCarthy has an interest in the Saints opening is surprising, to say the least. Currently, New Orleans is in a rougher spot than Dallas. Although the Saints possess more offensive firepower than the Cowboys, one of their key contributors, Alvin Kamara, will be 30, and their offensive line has taken a step back from what it once was.

On top of that, the Saints' defense was one of the worst in the league in 2024, and they remain in cap purgatory like always. Although the Cowboys' defense wasn't great in 2024 either, at least they have a bit more young, promising talent than the Saints.

With all that said, it's understandable why the job would be desirable for a young coach who could build the team into his vision. But, for McCarthy, who is 61 years old, going to the Saints seems like a huge mistake, given they probably aren't a coach away from the Super Bowl.

Nevertheless, if McCarthy does indeed leave Dallas, keep an eye out for him landing in New Orleans.
