Mike McCarthy Making Selfish Mistake With CeeDee Lamb's Injury
The Dallas Cowboys are 3-5 as they head into Week 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles. They have dropped three games in a row and lost quarterback Dak Prescott for an extended period of time with a hamstring injury.
The next couple of games are a gauntlet for the Cowboys, and it'll be a massive uphill climb for them to be able to make the playoffs. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb also sprained his AC joint in the loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Dallas has been battered by injuries but head coach Mike McCarthy appears to be making a self-centered move regarding the star playmaker.
Cowboys News: Mike McCarthy Said Ceedee Lamb Had a Great Thursday Practice
McCarthy spoke with 105.3 The Fan on Friday morning and said that Lamb had a good practice on Thursday.
"Had a heck of a day yesterday. He looks good. But (managing the pain) is definitely something he’s gonna have to deal with."
- Mike McCarthy
Lamb has been a limited participant in practice all week and is expected to suit up. But why should he? Per NFL Next Gen Stats, Dallas only has a 10% chance of making the playoffs. They would need a magical run to even have a shot of making the postseason but they haven't looked capable of that all year long.
McCarthy's contract is set to expire at the end of the season and he knows he needs to make a playoff push to keep his job. The best way to do that right now? Have Lamb out there even when he's in pain.
The Oklahoma product is one of the best WRs in the league and is a part of Dallas' future. Everyone knows that, especially McCarthy. And that's why he's willing to throw Lamb out there.
The 25-year-old wants to play and suit up with his teammates but as a coach, you need to protect a player from himself. But it doesn't look like McCarthy is doing that.
