Mike McCarthy Teases Major RB Move Cowboys Fans Are Begging for
By Cem Yolbulan
Coming out of their bye week, the Dallas Cowboys are facing the San Francisco 49ers to get back on track. The next five games for the Cowboys will determine how the rest of their season will go with crucial matchups against the Falcons, Eagles, Texans, and Commanders following the 49ers clash.
Head coach Mike McCarthy obviously knows that the way his team has played so far this season isn't going to be enough to turn things around. It's clear that there needs to be a chance. Considering that Jerry Jones and the front office are refusing to upgrade the roster via the trade market, the solution needs to come from within.
McCarthy finally teased that potential solution on Friday. The Athletic's Jon Machota reported McCarthy's remarks in which he said that RB Dalvin Cook is "in a position to play."
Cowboys News: RB Dalvin Cook May Finally Get His Chance
This has been a move Cowboys fans have been calling for since the beginning of the season. While it's true that Cook is way past his prime after averaging 3.2 yards per carry last season, he presumably can't be worse than the current state of the Cowboys' running game. Dallas ranks dead last in the NFL in yards per carry and has scored a league-worst two rushing touchdowns.
Cook was signed to the practice squad before the start of the season but has yet to make his Cowboys debut. After spending the 2023 season between the Jets and the Ravens, the four-time Pro Bowler has been trying to re-establish his career. It has been surprising for him not to get a chance over the struggling Ezekiel Elliott thus far but that may be changing starting in Week 8.
