The Dallas Cowboys haven't had the most exciting offseason thus far. Although they have gone from Mike McCarthy to Brian Schottenheimer at head coach, the Cowboys have taken a low-key approach to the offseason.

In free agency, they haven't made any big splashes. One player they signed was running back Javonte Williams to a one-year, $3 million deal. They needed another tailback in the backfield after Rico Dowdle left to sign with the Carolina Panthers.

With Williams in the fold for 2025, he officially picked his number and chose No. 33. That caught the attention of one fan, who said he doesn't think anyone should wear No. 33 for the Cowboys. Many fans in the comments seem to agree with this sentiment.

Fans Aren’t Thrilled Javonte Williams Will Wear No. 33

Running back Tony Dorsett is one of the best players to suit for the Cowboys. He was the No. 2 overall pick in the 1977 NFL Draft by Dallas and was an all-time great for them. Dorsett played in 11 seasons for Dallas, ranking second in team history in rushing yards (12,036) and rushing touchdowns (72).

During his time in Dallas, he won Super Bowl XII while making three All-Pro teams and four Pro Bowls. Although his number isn't retired by the Cowboys, some fans believe that no one should be able to wear it again.

Williams has been wearing No. 33 since entering the league with the Denver Broncos and he's ready to do the same with Dallas. The North Carolina product showed major flashes as a rookie in 2021 but things took a turn when he tore ACL and LCL during the 2022 campaign.

In 54 career games, Williams had compiled 2,394 rushing yards, 966 receiving yards, and 16 total touchdowns. He's able to be productive as both a runner and pass catcher but hasn't logged more than 774 rushing yards over the past three seasons. Meanwhile, as a rookie, he posted 903 rushing yards.

He isn't near the type of talent Dorsett was, which is why they aren't thrilled with him donning No. 33. Whether that's fair is a personal opinion, but it's clear not everyone loves the move.
