3 Draft Picks That Could Save Mike McCarthy’s Job
Mike McCarthy is heading into his fourth season as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. He's posted a 42-25 record, including three straight 12-win seasons. Despite getting double-digit wins, the Cowboys have continuously flamed out in the postseason.
It continued last season when the Cowboys lost to the Green Bay Packers 48-32 in the Wild Card Round.
The pressure is evident for McCarthy and he needs to get over the hump in 2024. Dallas hasn't been aggressive in improving the roster in free agency so they will shift their attention to the NFL Draft. They own seven total selections in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Dallas needs to fully dive into this draft class. Below we'll discuss three draft picks that can save McCarthy's job in 2024.
1. Blake Corum, RB
The Dallas Cowboys let Tony Pollard walk in free agency and didn't do much to replace him. They only have Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn on the roster and they need to add more talent to the backfield.
Someone they should keep a close eye on is Michigan's Blake Corum. The Virginia native was extremely productive during his college career and he could be a nice addition to Dallas.
Corum has light feet with great vision to quickly jump through the hole. He has a great understanding of angles and leverage to take advantage of defenders at the second level.
The 2023 First-Team All-American finished his collegiate career with 3,737 rushing yards, 411 receiving yards, and 61 total touchdowns, including a Michigan record of 58 rushing scores.
Corum is a player the Cowboys could take on Day 2 or Day 3 and he would transform their backfield.
