3 Most Likely Micah Parsons Trade Destinations if Rumors Are True
By Cem Yolbulan
A day doesn't go by that Cowboys fans don't wake up to new drama surrounding their team. The latest rumors around Dallas claim that Micah Parsons has worn out his welcome with the Cowboys. Awaiting a contract extension like CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott, the star defender hasn't received one yet, which in turn created a whirlwind of trade rumors.
As crazy and upsetting as that sounds, Micah Parsons could be a potential trade candidate. If he were to be made available on the trade market, all 31 teams would line up to make their best offers for the three-time Pro Bowler. Here are three teams that make the most sense as a destination for Parsons but also as trade partners for the Cowboys.
Detroit Lions
Despite having one of the best seasons in franchise history, losing in the NFC Championship game, the Detroit Lions had a mediocre defense. Ranking 23rd in points allowed and 19th in yards allowed in 2023, the Lions' defensive units have struggled for the third straight season under head coach Dan Campbell.
They understandably made an effort to address their needs on that side of the ball this offseason. They added defensive tackle DJ Reader, edge defenders Marcus Davenport and Mathieu Betts, and cornerback Amik Robertson in free agency. However, none of these names, maybe except for Reader, are good enough to take their defense to the elite levels needed to win the Super Bowl.
Micah Parsons would certainly do that. The Lions' defense, which finished the season with an underwhelming 41 sacks in total, would see a huge boost in that number with the addition of Parsons.
Detroit already has one of the best young pass rushers in the league in Aidan Hutchinson. Slotting Parsons across from him would wreak havoc and strike fear into opposing offensive lines and quarterbacks. It would fill an immediate need for the Lions and help get them to the next level.
The Lions also have trade assets that could be intriguing for the Cowboys. Not only could running backs David Montgomery or Jahmyr Gibbs be of interest to Dallas, but also the Lions had one of the best offensive lines in the league last season. Considering the Cowboys' desperate need to strengthen their o-line, there could be an opportunity there. Add a first-round pick or two, and the deal could start to look good for the Cowboys.
