Injuries are known to pile up throughout NFL training camp and the Dallas Cowboys are learning that the hard way. The injury bug has sunk its pincers into the Cowboys' running back room as both Deuce Vaughn and Royce Freeman find themselves on the sidelines with hamstring and groin issues, respectively.

With Vaughn and Freeman banged up for the foreseeable future, it might be in the Cowboys' best interest to add another rusher. Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, Snoop Conner, and Nathaniel Peat are the only other RBs on the roster, so it's easy to see how adding another rusher — even if it's only to be a warm body at camp — could be beneficial.

While the top free-agent RBs have already been snagged up, here are three available rushers the Cowboys can sign following their latest injury news.

1. Kareem Hunt

If the Cowboys want to add a back who has a ton of experience, look no further than Kareem Hunt.

The former 2017 third-round pick has played 91 games across seven seasons split between the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns. He immediately made a name for himself when he paced the league with 1,327 rushing yards as a rookie and while he hasn't returned to those heights since then, he could be a useful contributor in Dallas.

Yes, Hunt — who just turned 29 — isn't in his prime anymore, but that doesn't mean he's useless. After all, he's one of the better RBs in the red zone and that's an area where Dallas must improve. The Cowboys went from a whopping 18 rushing TDs inside of the 20-yard line in 2022 to just seven last year.

As for Hunt, the former Toledo RB finished the 2023 season with nine red-zone touchdowns on just 35 carries. In other words, he had a better than 25% chance of scoring with the ball in his hands when the Browns were within 20 yards of the end zone.

Again, Hunt likely won't rush for 1,000 yards again, but he's still a solid complimentary back at this stage of his career. Whether it's to occupy a depth spot or to provide insurance for an aging Ezekiel Elliott, there's certainly value in signing Hunt to a cheap contract.
