4 Cowboys on the Bubble After OTAs and Minicamp

Peyton Hendershot, TE
Another multi-year Cowboys veteran who may find himself on the outside looking in is tight-end Peyton Hendershot. The former undrafted free agent had a promising rookie season in 2022 when he caught 11 passes for 103 yards and scored a total of three touchdowns. Now, he finds himself in a crowded tight end room with the emerging star Jake Ferguson, recent second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker, and promising UDFA rookie Brevyn Spann-Ford.
Even though Schoonmaker was a disappointment last season, his high draft stock still puts him firmly ahead of Hendershot at this point. He is in danger of being leapfrogged by Spann-Ford, who the Cowboys gave a hefty signing bonus of $245k to bring him in.
This shows a lack of faith the Cowboys have in Hendershot. The 25-year-old already saw his role diminished in 2023, as he appeared in 159 offensive snaps, being targeted only seven times.
This may not be the end of the world for Hendershot. He has demonstrated that he has the talent to make an NFL roster. Being cut by the Cowboys could potentially help him land somewhere he can get more playing time.
