4 Studs (& 1 Dud) From the Rangers' ALDS Sweep Over the Orioles
It's time to take a breath and celebrate, Rangers fans! After being underdogs again in the ALDS, Texas pulled off another sweep against the Baltimore Orioles.
Three games meant plenty of opportunities for players to stand out, and the blowout to seal the series on Tuesday night almost gave us too many great performances to choose one. That doesn't mean there was no room for improvement as we look ahead of the American League Championship Series though.
It was tough narrowing it down, but we've landed on four studs (and one dud) from the ALDS.
Stud: Mitch Garver
Hitting a postseason grand slam is probably enough to land you on a "studs" list even if it's the only thing you do all series.
Game 2 was already looking out of reach, with the Rangers up 5-2 in the third inning, but Garver made sure to absolutely obliterate any chance of an Orioles comeback.
That proved it was a mistake to hold Garver out of the lineup for the first three games of the playoffs, and he wasted no time continuing to make his case for playing time in Game 3.
This time, the game was much more competitive when Garver did his damage. We were only up 1-0 when Garver once again took the plate with the bases loaded. It was quite another grand slam, but his 2-run double (then scoring when Adolis Garcia went yard) put the game away all the same.
Expect to see a lot more Garver in the ALCS.
