Browns Injury News Creates Clear Path to Victory for Cowboys
By Cem Yolbulan
The Dallas Cowboys are kicking off the 2024 NFL season on the road against the Cleveland Browns. What looks like a difficult matchup on the paper may have gotten a little easier for Dallas, at least on the defensive side of the ball.
According to the latest reporting from Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot, offensive lineman Jed Wills is out on Sunday. Fellow offensive tackle Jack Conklin is questionable to play.
NFL News: Browns Dealing With Significant Offensive Line Injuries
This is a big blow for the Browns who were already dealing with significant injuries to their offensive line. Hakeem Adeniji and Luke Wypler are on the injured reserve list while Michael Dunn is on the non-football illness list to begin the season. Wills' absence leaves the Browns very short-handed for their season-opener. If Conklin were to miss the game as well, the Browns frontline would be far from their ideal rotation.
The two offensive linemen who will likely get the starting nod in that case are James Hudson III and Dawand Jones. Hudson was one of the worst offensive tackles in the league last year and Cleveland's o-line was in shambles in the second half of the season without Conklin or Wills.
This is an especially difficult situation for Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski considering that this will be Deshaun Watson's first game since November 2023. After undergoing shoulder surgery, Watson missed the rest of the 2023 season and didn't take any reps in the preseason. Cleveland will have a difficult time protecting him on his return.
This means that the Cowboys' pass rushers could feast. It is reasonable to expect Micah Parsons to have a big game on Sunday. On DraftKings Sportsbook, there is a prob bet for Parsons to get a sack at -130 odds. He had 14 sacks in 17 games last season and will look to start the year with one.
