The Dallas Cowboys didn't do much this offseason as they patiently waited until the 2024 NFL Draft to make some additions to improve the team.

When everything is all set and done, the Cowboys will make eight total selections in the draft, with a couple of Day 1 starters brought in over the past three days.

On Day 3, the Cowboys had four total selections but the player they picked in the fifth round was kind of shocked to hear his name called by the team.

Cowboys News: Dallas' Fifth-Round Pick Was 'Surprised' to be Selected by the Team

With the 174th overall pick, the Cowboys selected Caelen Carson from Wake Forest University. The 22-year-old spoke with team reporters shortly after being drafted and gave an honest answer about his pre-draft process with the organization.

Carson said he was "pretty surprised" to be drafted by the Cowboys. The two sides haven't had a conversation since the NFL Scouting Combine.

Even though they didn't talk much leading up to the NFL Draft, Dallas believes he would be a nice addition to the team.

Carson is a smart player who has fluid hips to swiftly change directions in coverage. He's aggressive at the catch point to make plays on the ball.

In his collegiate career, the Maryland native supplied 120 total tackles, 26 pass breakups, and three interceptions.

With Trevon Diggs making his way back from a torn ACL and Stephon Gilmore no longer on the roster, the Cowboys added some much-needed depth to the cornerback room.
