Cowboys Can't Catch A Break With Yet Another Defensive Absence
The Dallas Cowboys have had an interesting offseason, to say the least. They are over in Oxnard, California for training camp as they've been grinding ahead of the 2024 season.
They've had to deal with the drama surrounding CeeDee Lamb's contract dispute but Dallas finally took a step in the right direction with that.
But once things started looking positive, Dallas was hit with a young defender having to miss time. Defensive tackle Mazi Smith is set to miss Saturday's preseason contest against the Las Vegas Raiders due to an allergic reaction.
Cowboys News: Mazi Smith Will Miss Saturday’s Preseason Game
The Cowboys released a statement on Friday, revealing why Smith won't be suiting up.
"Mazi Smith experienced an allergic reaction this afternoon at training camp that resulted in him not being able to travel with the team to Las Vegas. He has received treatment and will be reevaluated in the morning with his game status updated accordingly following that."

This isn't what Smith needs right now, as every rep is critical in his development. Last season as a rookie, he failed to make an impact. The Michigan product notched just 13 total tackles and one sack in three starts and 17 total games in 2023. He also played in 28% of the team's defensive snaps.
The 23-year-old has made some progress in training camp and finished with three tackles in 20 snaps in last week's game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Hopefully, everything turns out fine for Smith and he's able to return to the field quickly.
