Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb Take Major Step in Contract Dispute
This offseason hasn't been desirable for the Cowboys fanbase. After being embarrassed at home in the Wild Card Round, Jerry Jones and company failed to make any real additions to improve the team for the 2024 campaign.
In reality, they've watched as countless contributors leave town. They decided to dig their own hole when they didn't extend CeeDee Lamb prior to training camp, which led to the star receiver holding out.
After weeks of Lamb not being present at training camp, talks started heating up between both sides.
Cowboys News: Dallas Made a New Contract Offer to CeeDee Lamb
According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys and Lamb met over the phone on Thursday and the Cowboys made a new offer.
"The Cowboys are offering the receiver slightly under $33 million per season, a person with knowledge of the talks told The Dallas Morning News."
- Calvin Watkins
It finally looks like the Cowboys woke up and decided it was time to up the price to get their star playmaker back.
The annual salary of $33 million per year would make Lamb the second-highest-paid wide receiver in the league.
AJ Brown is currently making $32 million a year with Justin Jefferson taking the crown at $35 million a season. Regardless, this is the exact type of offer Dallas needed to come up with.
When you have superstar players on your team, you always need to pay and reward them. It's a great sign that Dallas decided to pony up more money in an attempt to end this holdout.
The Cowboys aren't the same team without Lamb and they know that. With the regular season three weeks away, Dallas needs to resolve this dispute and pay Lamb what he deserves.
