Aaron Rodgers' injury on Monday Night Football has sent shockwaves throughout the entire league. Now that it's confirmed Rodgers will miss the entire season with a ruptured Achilles, everyone is pondering what moves the New York Jets could make at quarterback.

Luckily for the Dallas Cowboys, they have the depth to potentially swindle New York.

Cowboys Trade Rumors

Jerry Jones was asked Tuesday about possibly trading backup Cooper Rush or QB3 Trey Lance to the Jets in the wake of the Rodgers news. Jones played dealmaker, hyping up Rush's value to the 'Boys considering how he's been the perfect replacement starter when called upon.

The fact that Jones didn't rule anything out shows he's at least open to discussions. While he said compromising on quarterback depth is "unlikely" for Dallas, you'd have to imagine he takes a phone call if New York comes knocking.

When it comes down to it, the Jets have every incentive to scour the backup market and make an aggressive offer. Their performance on Monday Night Football, which showcased their stifling defense to the rest of the league, shows they have the potential to contend. Finding the right plug-and-play solution is all they need to help steer the ship toward the postseason, since we all know Zach Wilson isn't the person for the job.

Rush could be exactly the guy they're looking for. He boasts an impressive 5-1 record as a starter since joining the Cowboys, which shows he can make enough plays to win a game and not squander a great supporting cast around him. Aside from a 3-interception start in 2022, Rush has also displayed great decision-making, throwing just 1 INT across his five other appearances as QB1.

While Rush isn't exactly a world-beater, he's a great fit for New York's offense, which has a strong run game headlined by Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook to lean on. Plus, he had no trouble hooking up with CeeDee Lamb (averages of 6.2 receptions and 76.0 yards) during his five-game starting stint in 2022, so he knows how to focus on his top targets. That should mean big things for Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard.

So now the Cowboys have the exact asset (a top backup QB) who fills a need for a desperate playoff hopeful. That's the recipe for an overpay, and they'd be foolish not to consider a deal if there's one on the table.

The one hang-up, though, would be on Lance's readiness for QB2 duties. It's obvious the North Dakota St. product needs some seasoning, so it'd be a major risk to play him in relief if anything happens to Dak Prescott.

All the reasons Rush should be attractive to the Jets are the same reasons Dallas would be smart to keep him around. These teams have similar goals and roster strengths, so even a boosted return may not outweigh the loss of the prized backup.
