After giving star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb a blockbuster deal late last month, it was only a matter of time before the Dallas Cowboys locked in franchise quarterback Dak Prescott.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys reached an agreement with Prescott on a four-year, $240 million contract extension that will make him the highest-paid player in NFL history.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network adds that Prescott is getting $39 million more than any other quarterback is scheduled to make over the next five years and receiving an $80 million signing bonus (the largest in NFL history).

The two sides reportedly hoped to get a deal done before the Cowboys play the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon to kick off the regular season.

The 31-year-old Prescott entered the 2024 season in the last year of a four-year $160 million contract extension that he signed in 2021. The former fourth-round pick is coming off a stellar 2023 season with the Cowboys.

Prescott completed a career-high 69.5 percent of his passes for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. It was a drastic improvement from the veteran quarterback, who struggled in 2022 (66.2% for 2,860 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions).

Prescott was named to his third Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro for his performance in 2023. He also finished fifth in Offensive Player of the Year and second in the MVP voting.

With Prescott and Lamb locked into massive extensions, Dallas hopes this duo can propel them to a deep playoff run this season and a potential Super Bowl berth. There’s a lot of pressure on head coach Mike McCarthy, who is in the last year of his deal to get the job done.
