Cowboys Must Pursue Released CB for Reunion After Bland Injury
The Dallas Cowboys have been finalizing their 53-man roster this week, as the deadline to have that locked in was on Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. CT.
This squad has dealt with a lot of extra drama and storylines but they finally look ready to roll. Unfortunately, injuries are a part of the game the Cowboys were hit with a loss to an All-Pro corner.
DaRon Bland is slated to miss six to eight weeks after he underwent surgery for a stress fracture in his foot.
Now with a hole in the secondary, the Cowboys should re-sign a former cornerback.
NFL News: Kelvin Joseph Was Released by Kansas City Chiefs
Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs released cornerback Kelvin Joseph. Back in 2021, the Cowboys selected Joseph in the second round but his tenure in Dallas didn't play out well.
He ended up being traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2023. He bounced around from Miami to the Seattle Seahawks before joining the Super Bowl champs. On Jan. 17, Joseph signed a reserve/future contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
This summer he was battling for a starting cornerback spot and played well before being let go. During the preseason, Joseph had 11 total tackles, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup.
The Kentucky product has all the athletic traits needed to thrive in the league but he had to take a step up in the mental aspect. It looks like his time away from Dallas helped elevate his game and the Cowboys would be smart to bring him back.
With Bland gone for the first two months, having a player like Joseph back in the fold could help them weather the storm.
