Cowboys Now Likely to Be Without Playmaker in Week 2
The Dallas Cowboys started off the 2024 season in style, logging a 33-17 win over the Cleveland Browns on the road.
This was the perfect start for the Cowboys after they had a less-than-desirable offseason filled with unnecessary noise. Hours before kickoff, Dallas made Dak Prescott the highest-paid quarterback in the league.
The vibes were sky-high, but they had to come back down to earth when tight end Jake Ferguson went down with a knee injury. An MRI revealed that Ferguson suffered a sprained MCL and his status for Week 2 is in question.
Cowboys News: Jake Ferguson Is Doubtful for Week 2
Per Dallas' injury report, Ferguson is listed as doubtful for the Week 2 contest against the New Orleans Saints. Todd Archer of ESPN added he couldn't remember a player with that designation playing for Dallas in 2023.
The Wisconsin product didn't participate in practice on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday and now he'll likely be watching from the sideline.
On Wednesday, Ferguson stated the pain in his knee was at a zero, leaving the door open for him to play, but it appears that Dallas is being cautious with their young tight end.
Tight ends Luke Schoonmaker and Brevyn Spann-Ford will have bigger roles in the game against the Saints as they look to fill in for Ferguson.
Despite Ferguson being expected to miss the game, the Cowboys dodged a major bullet with his injury. He initially thought he tore his ACL but instead, he could be back on the field in a few weeks.
The Cowboys should be able to handle business in their home opener, as they are 6.5-point favorites over the New Orleans Saints according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
